SØBYGAARD'S FUNCTION

Duke Hans the Younger occasionally visited Søbygaard, as did Christian the Duke, but after him there were only few ducal visits.

Duke Bernhard of Pløn inherited Søbygaard and was there only once, whereas Duke Christian Carl used the place regularly during the years 1699-1705.

It is hard to imagine that much was done to maintain Søbygaard, but that was changed when the Danish King Frederik IV took over Søbygaard in 1729.

The upper storey and the tower were taken down and the previous princely residence was reduced to a

residence for the managing clerk of the Nordborg County Revenue Office.
